When you analyze the character, try to follow these questions.
What anagnorisis (recognition) does Oedipus attain? What understanding characterizes
his final wisdom? Why does he blind himself?
What is Jocasta like? What function does she serve? She tells Oedipus that prophecies are unimportant, that blind chance rules the universe. Why is her statement so important?
