Adaptation + Explanation
Using the Exhibits you have read as a model and inspiration (and perhaps also the “Targeting El Paso” documentary), write an adaptation of a detainee’s testimony. You should write your adaptation in paragraph/journal form; not as a numbered list/set of answers to various questions (as they appear in the Exhibits themselves on which your adaptation should be based). Consider such questions: where are you from? How old are you? Do you have family living in the United States? What prompted your entry to the U.S.? What is life like in the detention center? Be prepared to give reasons and rationale for the writing decisions you have made, as the Adaptation assignment will require both the (1) creative, fictionalized adaptation of the detainee experience as well as (2) a brief essay explaining what informed the material that went into your adaptation.
