Choose 3 passages from the unit reading that they find interesting, challenging, or important for understanding the reading in question, or overall goals of the course. A passage can be anything from a single sentence to a paragraph. The students will quote each passage and indicate the page number. Beneath each selection, students will write a brief explanation (3-5 sentences) about why they have chosen it and what it means to them. Your explanations for your choices must be at least twice the length of the quotes you choose. Type the whole passages if need be and make sure that the quotation is accompanied by the appropriate citation.
• Each passage will be graded based on the following rubric:
o Response includes a properly quoted passage and its page number (1 point)
o Response uses correct spelling and grammar and includes at least 3-4 sentences of original analysis (1 point)
o Response reasonably explains why the passage was chosen (1 point)
o Response demonstrates an understanding of what the passage expresses (1 point)
o Response offers an interpretation of why the passage is important for understanding the text (1 point)
