These are some basic questions that you need to
closely consider BEFORE you hand in your FINAL PORTFOLIO:
1==Are you gathering your relevant drafts in a Word doc. file—NOT a pdf or a google docs file? FIND those drafts with my comments! SEE THE SAMPLE—and show us that you are ready to organize your own work!
And please know that readers will check to see if you considered my comments!
2==Are you aware that you need to email your work by Thursday, June 9th by 2:30?
3==Did you write a proper “heading” for each final paper—that is, did you tell a reader your full name, the course, my full name, and the semester?
4== Did you provide a title for the essay?
5==Did you refer DIRECTLY to the ASSIGNED TOPIC that you chose for the CAPSTONE? Check the handout about topics!
6==Did you refer to FOUR SOURCES for your Capstone essay, including two sources that YOU selected? For each source, did you provide the full and accurate name of the author and properly punctuate the full and accurate title? For your Reading-Based Essay, did you refer to THREE SOURCES?
7==Did you provide a patient and detailed “Selective Summary” for each source? Did you make use of our guidelines while doing this?
8==Did you follow our guidelines for Quoting? And as you are doing these summaries and quotes, have you also added YOUR questions and comments and opinions and analysis?
9==Did you organize the essay into clear paragraphs? Did you try to make connections between the sections of your essay? (That is, don’t settle for a “list” of what you read).
10==Did you present a paper that is properly formatted? That is, did you use a 12-point font, standard margins, and did you double-space it?
11==Did you at least try your best to do basic editing—such as checking which words need to be capitalized and spelled correctly? Are you clearly showing where sentences begin and end?
12==Did you look at the handout on “Conclusions” (see “Terms and Methods” handouts) and try to do more than just “repeat” what you already wrote?
13==Did you include a Works Cited page for your CAPSTONE Essay?
14==What new ideas have you been developing in each draft? Did you show that you made an effort toconsider and make use of my comments on your draft?
Does the work in this portfolio show that you have written papers that challenge the readers—and yourself—do some real college-level thinking??
