Scholarly Paper – 25% of the final grade
This written assignment is designed to address the student’s ability to synthesize and critique current literature to address a topic relevant to nursing informatics. This is an independent student assignment. Turnitin instructions as well as an APA handout for students as a guide for use in the written assignment will be made available to the student.
The paper should be a minimum of 8 pages and a maximum of 10 pages, double spaced, excluding references and bibliography
The student should select ONE from the following two options.
OPTION 1
Select a specific electronic health record application (such as electronic documentation, barcoding technology, physician order entry, electronic MAR, clinical decision support etc…).
Review and summarize the current evidence on the selected application as it pertains to patient safety. It is the expectation that you do a comprehensive review of the literature at minimum 5 articles on the specific application and its impact on patient safety.
Critique the evidence identifying the strengths and gaps in the literature that currently exist.
I was thinking that barcoding technology would be best but I do not mind any other choice you may have
