The act of appropriating can be applied to many things, such as art, culture, and even
societal norms. Your task for this essay is to choose one of the more controversial
instances of appropriation, and make a case either for, or against it, making sure to
answer the question: is it right, or wrong to do?
Who has the right to appropriate? The answer is much more complicated than citing
the first amendment or any form of law. In regards to culture, who owns what?
What are the right things to appropriate, and what are the wrong things? When is it (was
it) all right to do, and when is it not? How much, how little? What are the overall effects?
In addition to answering the above questions, you will also have to consider the
historical context and address a viewpoint that opposes your own.
