Before participating in this discussion, please make sure that you have read Ch 12, and the article “Night to His Day” by Judith Lorber. It is also a good idea to watch the lecture on Gender.
1. What does Judith Lorber mean when she writes: “For Individuals, Gender Means Sameness” and “For Society, Gender Means Difference”?
2. What were some ways in which you were taught to be “similar” to other members of your same gender? (Think of your own gender socialization).
3. What does it mean to “do gender?” What are some ways that you do gender? Are there any ways that you attempt to resist doing gender?
