You should choose an artwork from the list below to present on.
Your assignment should cover:
1. Information about the artist and their work in general. Are they mostly known as an internet artist? A programmer and software artist? A sculptor? What kinds of themes and materials do they explore in their work? (5 points)
2. Information about the work. Describe the work. Think about whatever is appropriate for your object: media, form, duration, coding. Are the materials generated by the artist? Are they appropriated? What point is the work trying to make? What is it trying to represent, critique, question, or contend with? (5 points)
3. Context of the work. Is it part of a group, a movement, a genre? How was the artwork experienced when it was first made? How do we experience it now? Is there a difference between the experiences then and now? Why? Has the meaning of the work changed over time? (5 points)
4. Relate the work to the themes of the course. You must cite at least one of the required texts from the course in your analysis. Consider how and why this work is relevant to the course material. What theories from this course are helpful for understanding the artwork? (5 points)
The final 5 points (for a total of 25) will be graded based on the clarity and comprehension of your arguments and overall writing. This also includes proper citation. Please have the last page include citations for any texts or other artworks that you mentioned.
