· Start the story with Cole already in Brazil, then explain the dilemma through dialogue with an extra character (below).
o Show how hard his job is while he is in Brazil (e.g phone constantly ringing and countless emails, be sure to reference Law Jargon)
· Also change the ending so that he doesn’t go back to the US, I.E keep the story in Brazil
· Identify a fear or weakness of Cole and put him in a situation where he faces this, which exposes his character. (use dialogue)
· Add a second significant character that interacts with Cole Pierce regularly, like a girlfriend or sibling.
o This character should increase the conflict within the story to make it more realistic
o Add conflict so that the ending is deserved (it could be, his brother or sister works 2 jobs and struggles paycheck to paycheck and Cole is just walking away from an extremely high paying job
· Use dialogue to show instead of explaining the situation (throughout the story), scenes with interaction are extremely powerful
o An example of this is the interaction between Cole and William on pages 8 and 9, carry this throughout the story
· When transitioning to a new scene it is critical to have something that grounds the new scene. Immediate grounding is key.
· Make the run up to the ending problematic so the ending is deserved.
Format
· Add line breaks when using dialogue (new line for dialogue)
· Use space breaks between scenes to identify them.
