1. Identify the people and events currently impacting the event you have selected. From what you understand of the current event, why is this event significant?
2. What is the historical context behind your event? In order to fully understand why something is happening now, we need to know who and what happened in the past that resulted in the current events. You CAN go back as far as 1850, but no further. What you are trying to answer is how historical events have led to the current event.
It should also clearly articulate a thoughtful appreciation for the time and culture and the larger contextual significance of the issue in question (also known as the Historical Context). Make sure the essay includes a bibliography page at the end that lists all of the sources you used to write the paper.
Be careful with the sources you choose. I will be looking at those very closely. You will probably need to consult a mix of different news sites and historical material to properly complete the project. Significant points will be taken off for use of non-scholarly or unreputable news sources. If you are unsure where to start, especially for international news, please consult the list below:
Explain the current issue – remember, others know nothing about what is happening in this region so make sure you provide examples and specifics so they get the whole picture.
